Georg Casari
Dr. Georg Casari is an Austrian biochemist and biotechnology entrepreneur with extensive leadership experience in life science companies and research organisations. He obtained his MSc in Biochemistry from the University of Vienna in 1988 and completed his PhD at IMP Vienna/University of Vienna in 1991. Following postdoctoral work in protein structure analysis at the University of Salzburg and in sequence analysis and genome annotation at EMBL Heidelberg and the European Bioinformatics Institute, he transitioned to roles at the interface of bioinformatics and pharmaceutical research
In 1997 he co-founded LION bioscience AG in Heidelberg, where he built and co-led the Life Science Informatics business unit as Vice President, later serving as Senior Vice President Life Science Informatics Research and establishing a high-performance bioinformatics research organization to support drug discovery. He subsequently held executive positions as Vice President Informatics at Cellzome AG, Chief Information Officer at Oridis-biomed GmbH, and Administrative Director at the CeMM Research Center for Molecular Medicine of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, with responsibility for finance, IP and technology transfer, and research infrastructure.
Since 2010 Dr. Casari has been co-founder and Managing Director of Haplogen GmbH and, since 2017, Managing Director of Haplogen Bioscience GmbH, overseeing company strategy, partnerships, licensing, financing, and operational teams.
In 2021 he co-founded YGION Biomedical GmbH, a biotechnology company developing an individualised immune-stimulation cancer vaccine based on patient-specific tumor neoepitopes, which is currently being tested in clinical phase.
Dr. Casari habilitated in Bioinformatics at the University of Salzburg in 2002 and has served on several scientific and industry boards, including the Max Planck Institute for Cybernetics and BIOTECH AUSTRIA.
