Søren Brunak
Søren Brunak is professor of Disease Systems Biology at the University of Copenhagen at the Dept. for Public Health. His research group has a strong life-course perspective on multimorbidities and the associated polypharmacy and combines multiomics data with analysis of electronic patient records, disease registry information and biobank cohort questionnaires. The overall aim to understand disease progression and disease interdependencies in patients who suffer from several diseases simultaneously. He initiated population-scale disease trajectory analysis using data from millions of patients to define subgroups with shared disease progression patterns and their underlying driver mechanisms. Søren Brunak has worked in the machine learning domain since the 1980s and use currently deep learning transformer architectures to analyse population-wide multimodal disease trajectories and predict risk and time to event of future diseases. He is a member of the Danish Royal Academy of Sciences and Letters as well as the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.
